Oduvile Theeyayi

(Translation on request for MS)
Abin and Priya move from Dubai to Priya’s dad’s estate home in a high range small town in Kerala after a few personal and professional setbacks. The movie moves through the harassment Priya faces from the locals.  This song comes in the morning after a night of (very satisfying) revenge. This song reminds me so much of the songs in Tarantino’s Django Unchained – Trinty (which was originally written for a Bud Spencer/Terrence Hill Spaghetti Western) and Freedom, or even this song from Kill Bill – Goodnight Moon. I wouldn’t be surprised if director Amal Neerad intended it that way with his Tarantinoesque treatment of the climax.

Oduvile theeyayi aarum naal vare
Oduvile novaayi maayum naal vare
[Like the last little flame to go out
Like the last bit of pain to disappear]
Ninnile.. nizhal pole njaan..
Ennile.. veyil pole nee..
[I’ll be with you, like your shadow
And you, be my sunshine]
Ennum.. kaaval aayi..
thudarneedum ee yathra..
[Always…keeping watch (on each other)
let’s continue this journey]

Laa la.. la la..

Vijanamee lokam vanyam, vanyame
Athil ore koottil, njaanum neeyume..(neeyume)
[This lonely world is wild, is wild
In that (world), in one nest, you and I.. (you)]
Innale..kadannu innu naam..
naalekal.. thiranjeedave..
[Yesterdays…going past those, us
tomorrows…(we) search for]
Oro… shwasavum..
punarjanmam aayi..maarum
[Every single… breath…
will become a new life]

Oduvile theeyayi aarum naal vare
Oduvile novaayi maayum naal vare
[Like the last little flame to go out
Like the last bit of pain to disappear]
Ninnile.. nizhal pole njaan..
Ennile.. veyil pole nee..
[I’ll be with you, like your shadow
And you, be my sunshine]
Ennum.. kaaval aayi..
thudarneedum ee yathra..
[Always…keeping watch (on each other)
let’s continue this journey]
