Kuruvi, kurukuruvi, kunukuruvi, kuruvi
nee varumo thaenkuruvi thaimaavin kombathu?
[Hey chirping little sparrow
will you come sit on the mango tree, hey sweet sparrow?]
Mizhiyil, kadamizhiyil, kalam ezhuthum kaatte
nee varumo ithu vazhiye malar ennum poonkaatte?
[Hey breeze which paints pictures in the corners of my eyes
Will you come this way counting flowers, hey sweet breeze?]

Chembarathi kammalittu, kuppivala konchalittu, kaathu ninnathu aaru?
Anthiveyil ponneduthu pathu muzham patteduthu paarthu ninnathu aaru?
[Wearing hibiscus earrings, jingling the bangles, who has been waiting?
Holding the golden rays of dusk and 10 yards of (red)silk, who has been waiting?]
Kilivaanil ninna megham panineerin kai kudanju
anivaaka pookkum ee naalil, naanam kondu
[The cloud in the bright sky, shook its hands with fragrant water
in the days when the Vaaka* tree blooms, with shyness]
Hey chembarathi..
[The hibiscus…]

Chembarathi kammalittu kuppivala konchalittu kaathu ninnathaaru?
Anthiveyil ponneduthu pathu muzham patteduthu paarthu ninnathaaru?
[Wearing hibiscus earrings, jingling the bangles, who has been waiting?
Holding the golden rays of dusk and 10 yards of (red)silk, who has been waiting?]

Manchaadi thuruthile kunjaatta kuruvikku
makara nilaavin manassariyaam
[The small sparrow of the grove of Manchaadi trees
knows the heart of the midwinter moon]
Vallaathe valaykkunna kann nottam aelkkumpol
manassinte jaalakam thurannu pokum
[When it gets the vexing stares
the window of heart will open]
Pakalkkinaavin ithalukalil paraagam aayi nin ormakal
viyal cheraathil oli vitharum nirangal aezhu thirimalar aayi
[On the petals of my daydreams, your memories became butterflies
The colors which light up the lantern in the sky became a set of seven flames]
Oh…varaathe vanna thaaram… cholli… melle
[The hesitant star…said…slowly]

Chembarathi kammalittu kuppivala konchalittu kaathu ninnathaaru?
Anthiveyil ponneduthu pathu muzham patteduthu paarthu ninnathaaru?
[Wearing hibiscus earrings, jingling the bangles, who has been waiting?
Holding the golden rays of dusk and 10 yards of (red)silk, who has been waiting?]

Aaa…

Vannaathi puzhayile changaathi thirakalum
tharalithamaam oru kadha parayum
[The friendly waves in Vannaathi** river
will tell you an exciting story]
Vellaatta kaavile thullaatta thalirila
pulakithaayi athu kettu irikkum
[The jiggling new leaf in the sacred grove where Vellaattam*** performs
will listen to it with eagerness]
Pinangi ninna paralukalum, inangi vannu kadha ariyaan
Kanangal veena manalviriyil, anangaraagam aliyuka aayi
[Even the sulking paral fishes, came by to know the story
On the spread of sand where water drops fall, the strains of love is mixing]
Oh..azhinju ulanja thennal… cholli… melle
[The unbound disheveled breeze…said…slowly ]

Hey…Chembarathi kammalittu kuppivala konchalittu kaathu ninnathaaru?
Anthiveyil ponneduthu pathu muzham patteduthu paarthu ninnathaaru?
[Wearing hibiscus earrings, jingling the bangles, who has been waiting?
Holding the golden rays of dusk and 10 yards of (red)silk, who has been waiting?]
Kilivaanil ninna megham panineerin kai kudanju
anivaaka pookkum ee naalil, naanam kondu
[The cloud in the bright sky, shook its hands with fragrant water
in the days when the vaaka tree blooms, with shyness]

Chembarathi kammalittu kuppivala konchalittu kaathu ninnathaaru?
Anthiveyil ponneduthu pathu muzham patteduthu paarthu ninnathaaru?
[Wearing hibiscus earrings, jingling the bangles, who has been waiting?
Holding the golden rays of dusk and 10 yards of (red)silk, who has been waiting?]
