Minni minni

(Translation on request for MJ)
June and Noel are classmates in high school who seem to be falling in love. The song captures the feelings of June being in love for the first time. Loved the picturization of this song as it so relatable.

Minni minni, kannu chimmi, ninne nokki paava pol njan irippu
Vingi vingi, onnu mindaan, onnu adukkaan, njaan kaathe nilpu…
[With twinkling eyes and batting eyelashes, I stay like a doll staring at you
Longingly, to speak, to be close, I have been waiting]
Poonthennal pole en, kilivaathilin azhi neekki nee varu
[Like a beautiful breeze through the bars of my window, you please come ]

Ethra njan nin mukham orthu irikkunnu
Athra mel raavukal melle neengunnu
[The more time I spend thinking of your face,
The nights move that much slower]
Kannukal kollave ullu neerunnu…aadyam aayi
[My insides burn up when I feel your eyes on me…for the first time]
Nin viral thumbukal minnal aakunnu
Nin swaram polum innu eenam aakunnu
[Your fingertips are like lightning strikes (when they touch mine)
Even your voice sounds like music (to me)]
Pinchilam kunju pol mey chuvakkunnu
Swapnamo? nero?
[And I redden like a new born
Is it a dream? Or reality?]

Kanmashi koodu itha njan thurakkunnu
Kaalviral mannile chithram aakunnu
[I’m opening a new kajal bottle (to look prettier)
My toe is drawing pictures in the sand*]
Ennile pon mayil peeli neerthunnu…veruthe
[The peacock in me is spreading its tail… for no reason]
Nee varum veedhiyil njan irikkunnu
Ninte kankopavum bhangi thonnunnu
[I wait for you on the path you walk on
Even the anger in your eyes, I find beautiful]
Ninte kannadi aayi melle maarunnu
Manthramo chollu?
[I’m slowly changing into your mirror
Is it magic, tell me?]

* If you are unfamiliar with this expression – drawing pictures with her toe in the sand – means she is being coy in his presence. This was heavily used in old Malayalam movies to show a girl being shy or coy in the presence of a love interest, not so much anymore. 🙂
