Mullapoove ninne polum vellum pennu aanu ival
Kaanum thorum kaanaan thonnum ponnin monchu ullaval
[Hey jasmine, she is a lady who even trumps you in beauty
Once you see her you wish to look again, the one who glows like gold]
Pakal ozhukunna nilavo, kolussu aniyunna kavithayo?
ellarum chodikkille? chumma nee poyi marayalle!
[Is she a moonbeam flowing in daylight or a poem wearing anklets?
Won’t everyone ask this?, so please don’t just vanish somewhere!]

Karayum kadalum thanchathil aadi
Ivale kandaal kaattum ishtam koodi
[The shore and the sea swayed in unison
When it sees her, the breeze also comes along with affection]
Pathivaayi kaanum palar aanelum
pakalpooram kaanan ivalodu oppam koodi
[Even the people who sees her daily
joined with her to watch festivals in the day]
Nallonam aadaan aayi kothi ullol aanu
Veruthe nilkkumbol mooli paadunnol aanu
[She yearns to dance beautifully
When she stands still idle, she hums]
Oru janmam theera kanneeril neenthi chiri thooki nilkkum pennu aanu!
[Swam in a lifetime of tears but now stands smiling, this lady!]

Mullapoove ninne polum vellum pennu aanu ival
Kaanum thorum kaanaan thonnum ponnin monju ullaval
[Hey jasmine, she is a lady who even trumps you in beauty
Once you see her you wish to look again, the one who glows like gold]
Pakal ozhukunna nilavo, kolussu aniyunna kavithayo?
ellarum chodikkille? chumma nee poyi marayalle!
[Is she a moonbeam flowing in daylight or a poem wearing anklets?
Won’t everyone ask this?, so please don’t just vanish somewhere!]
