Appu, a college student, lives with his mother, grandmother and aunt in a matrilineal family. His dad is away working in the military while Appu and his mom faces a lot of hostility from the rest of the family. Neither his studies nor anything else in life interests him. Any advices from his mother, letters from his dad or pleas of Latha, his neighbor, falls on deaf ears. He gets involved in college politics and ends up getting in a fight. This prompts his mom to throw him out after a bitter fight with his parents. One of his teachers persuade him to go back after listening to his issues. He returns home mellowed down and decides to live a better life. Latha welcomes this change along with the admission that they like each other. A song about innocent love from the movie Jalakam.
