Thankathinkal kili aayi kurukaam, thaarathooval menayaam, nanayaam,
neeraadi aadum nirasandhyayil
[Like a golden moon bird I’ll croon, weave feathers with stars and get wet
bathe and dance in this brimming twilight]

Thankathinkal kili aayi kurukaam, thaarathooval menayaam, nanayaam,
neeraadi aadum nirasandhyayil
[Like a moon bird I’ll croon, weave feathers with stars and get wet
bathe and dance in this brimming twilight]

Vandu ulanja malar pole, vaarnilaavin ithal pole
nenchinullil oru moham, athinindraneela laya bhaavam
[Like a flower shaken by the beetle, like a petal of moonlight
in my heart is a desire, with a blended hue of blue sapphire]
Kunkuma megham kuliru korkkum oru manjala pole ulaavaam
Ambili naalam pathiye meettum oru thamburu pole thalodaam
[Like a wave of fog weaved by the crimson cloud, I’ll sway
Like a thamburu* which is played slowly by a moonbeam, I’ll caress]

Thankathinkal kili aayi kurukaam, thaarathooval menayaam, nanayaam,
neeraadi aadum nirasandhyayil
[Like a golden moon bird I’ll croon, weave feathers with stars and get wet
bathe and dance in this brimming twilight]

Aa….

Doore aaro paaduka aanu oru devahindolam
Ullin ullil pranaya sarodin saandramaam naadam
[At a distance, someone is singing a heavenly music note
In hearts deepest corner is playing a dense sound from a sarod of love]
Kaathil melle kikkili koottum chillu lolaakkil
kaathara swara manthram unarthum lola sallaapam
[On the glass earring which tickles the ear softly
a tremulous magical sound note woken up by a soft chant]
Oru koadi sooryamani thaedi, thelivaanil melle uyaraan vaa,
shishiram pakarum panineer mazhayil veruthe nanunanayumbol
[Searching for a crore of sunbeam drops, come to fly up in the clear sky
when we get drenched softly in the fragrant rain which winter pours]

Dhithana Dhithana …

Thankathinkal kili aayi kurukaam, thaarathooval menayaam, nanayaam,
neeraadi aadum nirasandhyayil
[Like a golden moon bird I’ll croon, weave feathers with stars and get wet
bathe and dance in this brimming twilight]

Paal churathum pournami vaavin palli manchathil,
kaathu irikkum kinnari muthe, nee enikkalle?
[In the royal palanquin of the full moon which oozes milk
hey adorable pearl who waits, aren’t you mine?]
Poothu nilkkum punchiri mottil nulli novikkaan,
kai tharikkum kanni nilaave, nee kinungalle!
[To pinch (playfully) and hurt the blossoming bud of smile
hey new moonbeam whose fingers throb, don’t whine!]
Thaniye thelinja mizhideepam, pathiye ananju oru irul moodaan
mukilin thanalil, kanavin padavil, mazhavil chiraku aerumbol
[The lamp of eyes which lighted on its own, to let it extinguish slowly, let the darkness cover
under the shade of a cloud, on the step of a dream, when we rise on rainbow wings]

Dhithana Dhithana ….

Thankathinkal kili aayi kurukaam, thaarathooval menayaam, nanayaam,
neeraadi aadum nirasandhyayil
[Like a moon bird I’ll croon, weave feathers with stars and get wet
bathe and dance in this brimming twilight]

Vandu ulanja malar pole, vaarnilaavin ithal pole
nenchinullil oru moham, athin indraneela layabhaavam
[Like a flower shaken by the beetle, like a petal of moonlight
in my heart is a desire, with a blended hue of blue sapphire]
Kunkuma megham kuliru korkkum oru manjala pole ulaavaam
Ambili naalam pathiye meettum oru thamburu pole thalodaam
[Like a wave of fog weaved by the crimson cloud, I’ll sway
Like a thamburu* which is played slowly by a moonbeam, I’ll caress]
