Kannum Kannum

(Translation on request for NS)
Babu, a blue collar worker and labor union leader, fights for himself and his collegues’ rights before the local factory owners. Sindhu is the daughter of one such rich factory owner. At first she looks upon him with contempt, but after he saves her from a set of goons she tries to know him better. Sindhu visits Babu’s home to chat and there is a strong underlying attaction between the two. This song plays as a dream sequence when their eyes lock. An evergreen melody about attraction from the movie Angadi.

Kannum kannum thammil thammil
kadhakal kaimaarum anuraagame
[Between these two pairs of eyes
hey attraction, which exchanges stories]
Nee arinjo ninnil oorum moha ganga* jalam,
madhura devaamrutham, madhura devaamrutham?
[Did you know, that oozing stream of desire in you
is sweet ambrosia, is sweet ambrosia?]

Kannum kannum thammil thammil
kadhakal kaimaarum anuraagame
[Between these two pairs of eyes
hey attraction, which exchanges stories]

Lahari engum nurakal neyyum lalitha gaanangalaal
Lahari engum nurakal neyyum lalitha gaanangalaal
Karalin ullil kuliru peyyum thalir vasanthangalil
[With light music, headiness weaves bubbles everywhere
Raining pleasant chills in heart in these sprouting Springs]
Ini oru vanalatha malar aniyum
Athiloru himakanamani uthirum
[A jungle vine will flower again
A dew drop will form on that]

Kannum kannum thammil thammil
kadhakal kaimaarum anuraagame
[Between these two pairs of eyes
hey attraction, which exchanges stories]

Nakhashikhaantham navasugandham nukarum unmadhame
Nakhashikhaantham navasugandham nukarum unmadhame
Sirakal thorum madhuram oorum hrudaya laavanyame
[Hey intoxication which sips new fragrances from head to toe
Hey beauty of my heart who oozes sweetness in my veins]
Asulabha sukhalayam anunimisham
Athil akam aliyum oru ina shalabham
[Every moment is a rare comforting cadence
Melting in that is the heart of the butterfly mate]

Kannum kannum thammil thammil
kadhakal kaimaarum anuraagame
[Between these two pairs of eyes
hey attraction, which exchanges stories]
Nee arinjo ninnil oorum moha ganga* jalam,
madhura devaamrutham, madhura devaamrutham?
[Did you know, that oozing stream of desire in you
is sweet ambrosia, is sweet ambrosia?]
Madhura devaamrutham….
[Sweet ambrosia…]

* Ganga jalam is water from river Ganga. It is usually thought of as very pure and holy in a religious context. Here it may be used to convey pure emotion.
