Nadavaathil thurannilla, padivaathil kadannu oraal ananjilla
Narunilaavu udichittum padivaathil kadannu oraal ananjilla
[The entry door has not opened, no one came in crossing the doorstep
Even after the sweet moon rise, no one came in crossing the doorstep]
Varumenno, varillenno, varuvaan vaikidum enno…
Parayaathe poyathaam pranayam aanu aere enno, thaaril maanassathaaril?
[(That he) will come, or will not come, or will be late…
or (that he holds) a lot of love which was not expressed, (what is it) in the heart?]
Narunilaavu udichittum padivaathil kadannu oraal ananjilla
[Even after the sweet moon rise, no one came in crossing the doorstep]

Priyam ennu ninachu njaan
[The things I thought were dear to me]
Priyam ennu ninachu njaan orukki vechavayil,
en priyathamaa ninakku ethum kothukamille?
[The things I gathered which were dear to me
my darling, don’t you hold any interest in those?]
Chandana pudavayo, sindoora thilakamo,
sringaara rasamolum kaavyaalaapamo?
[In this sandalwood colored clothes, this vermilion mark on the forehead
this recital of poems with a desirous expression of love?]
Narunilaavu udichittum padivaathil kadannu oraal ananjilla
[Even after the sweet moon rise, no one came in crossing the doorstep]

Kathir ennu karuthi njaan karuthi vechava
verum pathir ennu kaattil parannu pomo?
[Thinking they were grains, the things I saved
have they turned to chaff and scattered in the wind?]
Vandukal thedi ethum, chempavizhangal kortha
pulchilankakalude gaanaalapamo?
[The ones the beetles come in search for, adorned with the red coral (flowers)
those grassy anklets, is it the song sung by them?]
Narunilaavu udichittum padivaathil kadannu oraal ananjilla
[Even after the sweet moon rise, no one came in crossing the doorstep]

Varumenno, varillenno, varuvaan vaikidum enno…
Parayaathe poyathaam pranayam aanu aere enno, thaaril maanassathaaril?
[(That he) will come, or will not come, or will be late…
or (that he holds) a lot of love which was not expressed, (what is it) in the heart?]
Nadavaathil thurannilla…oraal ananjilla
[The entry door has not opened…no one has come]
