Oru Poovine

(Translation on request for SH)
Omanakuttan marries his friend’s sister Malu in haste, coerced by the people standing around, when her intended did not show up for the wedding. The only problem is, his dad is against them staying together in a room because he thinks Omanakuttan is unqualified to support a family as he hasn’t even graduated high school. The new couple meets clandestinely at night to spend some time together.

Oru poovine, nishaashalabham thottu uarthum yaamam aayi
Narumanjum ee nila kulirum onnucherum neram aayi
[It is the hour when the night butterfly is waking a flower up
It is the time when the fog is becoming one with the chilly moonlight]
Panineeril nananja raathriye pularveyil pulkumbol
[When the night drenched in fragrance is being embraced by the morning sun]

Oru poovine, nishaashalabham thottu uarthum yaamam aayi
[It is the hour when the night butterfly is waking a flower up]

Poothu nilkkum kaamini mullaye,
pranaya vasantham pothiyumbol
[When the blooming lover jasmine
is being covered in love’s colors]
Maanju pokum manjani thinkalil
soorya paraagam kuthirunnu
[In the disappearing foggy moon
is being soaked in sun’s fragrance]
Poonkinaavin chiraku thalodi
kulirnnu nilppu njaan
[Caressing the feathers of sweet dreams
I stand feeling a pleasant chill]
Veruthe ninte mizhiyil
nokki nilkkaan moham aayi
[In vain, into your eyes
I wish to stay, looking]

Oru poovine, nishaashalabham thottu uarthum yaamam aayi
[It is the hour when the night butterfly is waking a flower up]

Velli megha thaeril irangi,
venal nilaavum sandhyakalum
[From silver clouds’ chariot, alighted
the summer moon and dusks]
Peythu thorum maamazhay aayi,
ponkinaavum poovithalum
[Like a heavy rain slowly receding,
these beautiful dreams and petals]
Orma moodum ven thaalukalil
peeli theliyukayaayi
[In the white pages covered with memories
appear, (letters) with feather (pen)]
Iniyum thammil aliyaan
nenju pidayum, saandram aayi
[To become one with each other again
heart flutters softly]

Oru poovine, nishaashalabham thottu uarthum yaamam aayi
Narumanjum ee nila kulirum onnucherum neram aayi
[It is the hour when the night butterfly is waking a flower up
It is the time when the fog is becoming one with the chilly moonlight]
Panineeril nananja raathriye pularveyil pulkumbol
[When the night drenched in fragrance is being embraced by the morning sun]
