A nice song describing a village and its history.

Maanathe kanal aali pulari piranne
Thaazhathe kalam aake chiraku viriche
[The flaming ember in the sky brought a new morning
And it spread it’s wings all over the ground]
Karukappul thumbin naambil muthu koruthe
Kanavu eriyana kannale graamam unarnne
[It threaded (dew) pearls on the tip of karuka grass blades
And the village woke up with dreamy eyes]

Ee naadin kadha parayan aayi vannorunde
Pullinaadin nadimidippu arinjorunde
[There are those who came to tell the story of this land
There are those who have felt the pulse of this land]
Padavettan kacha orukki nirannorunde
Thadayillathe angane ingane paanjorunde
[There are those who lined up in battle clothes to fight
There are those who sped in different ways without a stop]

Kanaathou kaattu paranje
Kettvarum aettu paranje
[An unknown wind said something
Those who heard it repeated]
Neru ellam poyi maranje
Kaalam kalikaalam arinje
[All truth was lost
And thus the era saw kalikaalam*]

Nallavan aayi pakalu chamanju nadanne naadu aake
Vallabhanu pullum ayudham ennum kande
[Feigned goodness and went everywhere
Realized that even grass can be made into a weapon if you are clever]
Poykkalil pongi nadanne
Poy mukgavum vech kaliche
[Walked high up on stilts (for false pretense)
Masqueraded with a face mask]
Vaalinu pakaram nalloru aalmaravum natte
[Instead of a tail, a peepal tree was planted]

Njan ennoru maeni nadichu nadakkunnor ellarum
than kuthiya kuzhiyil veene thannathanaane
[The ones who walked around thinking high of themselves
fell into the ditches they themselves had dug out (for others)]
Neru ellaam engotto poyi maranje
Kaalam, kalikaalam, ithu kaalam arinje
[All truth and goodness disappeared
The era saw kalikaalam*]

Maanathe kanal aali pulari piranne
Thaazhathe kalam aake chiraku viriche
[The flaming ember in the sky brought a new morning
And it spread it’s wings all over the ground]
Karukappul thumbin naambil muthu koruthe
Kanavu eriyana kannale graamam unarnne
[It threaded (dew) pearls on the tip of karuka grass blades
And the village woke up with dreamy eyes]

Ee naadin kadha parayan aayi vannorunde

[There are those who came to tell the story of this land
There are those who have felt the pulse of this land]
Padavettan kacha orukki nirannorunde

[There are those who lined up in battle clothes to fight
There are those who sped in different ways without a stop]

Kanaathou kaattu paranje
Kettvarum aettu paranje
[An unknown wind said something
Those who heard it repeated]
Neru ellam poyi maranje
Kaalam kalikaalam arinje
[All truth was lost
And thus the era saw kalikaalam*]
