Mazhathullikal

(Translation on request for NMS)
Gopi, a thief, puts a stolen precious chain in a fellow traveler Veena’s bag to save himself from a trailing cop. They end up travelling together for the rest of the time as Veena blackmails him with that knowledge, so that she can have a travelling companion until she reaches her fiance. They end up in Gopi’s native place when they miss a train. Even though Veena is planning to get married to her fiance, Gopi and her get closer as they make this journey together.

Mazhathullikal pozhinjeedum ee naadan vazhi
Nananju odi en kuda keezhil nee vanna naal
[Under the drizzling rain drops on this country road
The day you came running under my umbrella, wet in that rain]
Kaattaale nin eeran mudi, cherunnithen mel aakave
Neelunnoru ee manpaathayil, tholodu thol poyeellayo?
[In the breeze, your slightly wet hair stuck all over my body
On this long mud road, didn’t we walk shoulder to shoulder?]

Mazhathullikal pozhinjeedum ee naadan vazhi
Nananju odi en kuda keezhil nee vanna naal
[Under the drizzling rain drops on this country road
The day you came running under my umbrella, wet in that rain]

Idaraathe njan aa kaiyil kai cherkkave,
mayilpeeli paalum pole nokkunnuvo?
[Without hesitation, when I hold your palm with mine,
like the peacock feather jolts (into action), are you looking at me?]
Thanukkathe melle cherkkum nerathu nee
virakkunnu meyyum maarum vere enthino
[When I hold you close so that you don’t feel cold,
your body and chest are still shaking for something else]
Aashichu njaan thoraatha oru ee…
poomariyil moodatte naam
[And I wished, in this unending…
beautiful rain, that us be drenched]

Mazhathullikal pozhinjeedum ee naadan vazhi
Nananju odi en kuda keezhil nee vanna naal
[Under the drizzling rain drops on this country road
The day you came running under my umbrella, wet in that rain]

Kudathumbil oorum neerpol, kanneerum aayi
vida cholli mookam neeyum maanjeedave
[Like the water drops which collects at the end of the umbrella, with the tears
silently saying goodbye, when you disappear]
Kaaru ozhinja vaanin daham theernnidave
vazhi konil shokam nilpoo njaan ekan aayi
[When the thirst of the sky ends and it is no longer covered in rain clouds
I stand at the path’s corner alone with sadness]
Nee ethuvaan mohichu njaan
Mazha ethum aa naal vannidaan
[Wishing for you to be back
For that rainy day to come back]
