Eeran Maarum

A new Shreya Ghoshal song from the movie, Uncle.

Eeran maarum omal thalir ila mele,
kaanana shalabam unarnu ezhunelkkunnu
[When the dew recedes, on the lovely new leaf,
the wild butterfly wakes up]

Eeran maarum omal thalir ila mele
kaanana shalabam unarnu ezhunelkkunnu
[When the dew recedes, on the lovely new leaf,
the wild butterfly wakes up]
Rithu parilaalanam aelkkunnu njaanum
Ithetho, ithetho kinaavo?
[I am being nurtured by the seasons too
Is this, is this a dream?]

Eeran maarum omal thalir ila mele,
kaanana shalabam unarnu ezhunelkkunnu
[When the dew recedes, on the lovely new leaf,
the wild butterfly wakes up]

Per idaan aayi pookkal aake niranna pol
Aadyam aayi nilaavu unarum pole
[When the flowers all bloomed in bunches, as if to be named
Like when the moonlight woke up for the first time]
Kaattu moolum paattil aetho swarangale,
mookam ee mulamkuzhal arivathu pole
[The sounds of the song which the breeze hums,
like how the silent bamboo shoot recognizes]
Vazhiyaathrayil, oru mathrayil, velivaakaayi sakalam,
kaadin gandham vaari choodi mel aake
[In my journey, at one moment, suddenly it all became clear,
I immersed myself in the fragrance of the jungle]

Eeran maarum omal thalir ila mele,
kaanana shalabam unarnu ezhunelkkunnu
[When the dew recedes, on the lovely new leaf,
the wild butterfly wakes up]

Njaatuvela* thaamasikkum kudeeramo,
maamalakku mele kaanvo doore?
[It this the cottage which the sun lives
on the faraway mountaintop, that we see? ]
Aadyamaayi vannu udikkum nilaavine,
kaikal neetti paalakal thodunna pole
[The light of the newly rising moon,
like how the paala flowers touch with their extended hands]
Oru maina aayi oru ponma aayi chirakarnnuvo hridayam?
Kaadin thaalam kaalil chutti thaalolam
[Like a robin, like a kingfisher, did the heart take wings?
the beats of forest wound on legs affectionately**]

Eeran maarum omal thalir ila mele,
kaanana shalabam unarnu ezhunelkkunnu
[When the dew recedes, on the lovely new leaf,
the wild butterfly wakes up]
Rithu parilaalanam aelkkunnu njaanum
Ithetho, ithetho kinaavo?
[I am being nurtured by the seasons too
Is this, is this a dream?]

Eeran maarum omal thalir ila mele,
kaanana shalabam unarnu ezhunelkkunnu
[When the dew recedes, on the lovely new leaf,
the wild butterfly wakes up]

*Njaattuvela is the interval based on sun’s position used by farmers to plant crops. I think they probably meant njattu (sun) instead of njattuvela (intervals of sun), otherwise I don’t know how it makes sense here.
** Figuratively this could mean “I danced to the tunes of the jungle”.
