Poikayil, kulir poikayil
ponveyil neeraadum neram,
[In the pond, in this pleasantly chilly pond
when the golden sunlight takes a dip,]
pookkannum aayi nilkkunnuvo
theerathe mandaaram?
[with flowery eyes, are you standing there
the mandaaram flower on the bank?]
Kaattil, thaila gandham
Neettil, ponnu chandam
[In the wind, the fragrance of aromatic oil
In the water, a golden glow]

Poikayil, kulir poikayil
ponveyil neeraadum neram
[In the pond, in this pleasantly chilly pond
when the golden sunlight takes a dip]

Poonthirakal pooshi ninne pushpa dhooli saurabham
Paalthirakal chaarthi ninne muthu kortha noopuram
[The beautiful waves painted you with flowery pollen’s perfume
The milky waves adorned you with pearly anklets]
Ven nura meyyil chandana chaarthu aayi
[The white surf on your body, covered like sandalwood paste]
Nee devanandini ee theerabhoomiyil
thaereri vannuvo? thaedunnathu aareyo?
[You, daughter of a Goddess, on this seaside part of the earth
did you come in a chariot (from above)? who are you searching for?]

Poikayil, kulir poikayil
ponveyil neeraadum neram
[In the pond, in this pleasantly chilly pond
when the golden sunlight takes a dip]

Snaana keli lola aayi nee thaanu uyarnnu neenthave
Kaathare nin maaru ulanju, thaamarappoo mottu pol
[In your soft playful bath (in the pond), while you swim up and down
Hey timid girl your bosoms shook, like a lotus bud (in the water)]
Kalppadavu aeri nilppathu enthe nee?
[Why are you standing on the stone steps (at the pond)?]
Nee aethu shilpiye thaedunna chaarutha?
Nee aethu aloukika saundarya devatha?
[Searching for which sculptor are you, loveliness?
Which heavenly Goddess of beauty are you?]

Poikayil, kulir poikayil
ponveyil neeraadum neram,
[In the pond, in this pleasantly chilly pond
when the golden sunlight takes a dip,]
pookkannum aayi nilkkunnuvo
theerathe mandaaram?
[with flowery eyes, are you standing there
the mandaaram flower on the bank?]
Kaattil, thaila gandham
Neettil, ponnu chandam
[In the wind, the fragrance of aromatic oil
In the water, a golden glow]

Poikayil, kulir poikayil
ponveyil neeraadum neram
[In the pond, in this pleasantly chilly pond
when the golden sunlight takes a dip]
