Chirakulal Njan

(Translation on request for RD)
Steve Lopez used to be your average college going teenager whose greatest worry was how to articulate his love to his childhood friend, Anjali. One day he witnesses a crime and this brings him face to face with the ugly side of law enforcement which his father is also a part of. He suddenly finds himself caring about the human rights of a criminal despite his father’s warnings to not get involved. Anjali meanwhile, tries to grapple with the sudden unexplained distance and indifference from him.

Chirakulal njan, nee dooram aayi
Chuvarukal njan, nee chithram aayi
[I am the wings, you became the distance (I fly)
I am the walls, (on which) you became the painting]
Nin ormayil, ennennume, alayunnu njaan
[Thinking of you, forever, I wander]

Njaan, peythu ninnil, thornnu ninnil, mazhamegham aayi
Nee, nirayunnathum, aliyunnathum, nanavu orma aayi
[I, showered in you, and then stopped, like a rain cloud
You, filling up, and dissolving, became a tearful memory]

Chirakulal njan, nee dooram aayi
Janalukal njan, nee jaalam aayi
[I am the wings, you became the distance (I fly)
I am the window, you became the sight]

Naam thaliraarnnindum, poovuaarnnidum marubhoomi aayi
Theeveyil aayi, raavaravaayi, nee, mrugathrishna aayi
[We, became a sprouting, flowering desert
A fiery hot sunlight, a night, you became a mirage]
Njan aarum illaa raa theruveedhi aayi
Aakasham illaa raa tharam aayi
[I became a lonely street at night
(Or) Like a night star without a sky]
Njan, ee nagara ghaandaaram athil, veenu urukeedumo?
Aaraanu njan? Aaraanu nee? Aaraaro naam?
[Will I, in this crowded city, fall and melt?
Who am I? Who are you? Who are we?]

Chirakulal njan, nee dooram aayi
Chuvarukal njan, nee chithram aayi
[I am the wings, you became the distance (I fly)
I am the walls, (on which) you became the painting]
Nin ormayil, ennennume, alayunnu njaan
[Thinking of you, forever, I wander]
