*Thalirthothil – I am unfamiliar with this word or I am not hearing it correctly, so I guessed it means softly.

Interesting. Having lived in Kerala for a decade and learned only conversational Malayalam, it is a beautiful world to get Into the awana lokam of music and even more enjoyable whenever its meaning reveals an underlying emotion. Thank you. I used to talk to my friends and listen word by word. Or prati pada artha.
Thank god, finally I found someone whose is equally confused about the word ‘thalirtjotthil’, but sorry I’m not convinced of the meaning you’ve given. Never heard of a word like this in Malayalam. But I found the same in every result that google gave.
Well, I hear that word while listening, but could not find a word like that. It is very surprising because the lyrics is written by ONV who is known for writing with words rooted in Malayalam rather than loan words from Sanskrit and sung by Yesudas, the king of exact pronunciation. Is it തളിർത്വത്തിൽ? or തളിർത്തോപ്പിൽ pronounced wrong? I have no idea, can’t make out the word as it is pronounced. So I did the next best thing – inferred a probable meaning because the first part of the word sounds like ‘thalir’ (“new shoot”, also used as “soft” like in “thalir chundu”) and provided a note below. 😊
Hi friends. There is a Malayalam word thothu meaning “a group” or “a pack” . This you can verify with the Malayalam dictionary “olam”. Thalir means the softest stage (early stage) of a leaf. These Thalir generally comes in a group, not one by one leaf. So, Thalir thothu meaningfully means the group of Thalir leaves. They represent the complete youth. One of the young couple sang “tharoo oru janmam koodi” means, these couple praying to live for one more birth….since they are so much in love with each other and they felt that one life is insufficient for them to love each other. But, before they could sing even half that prayer, that tender soft leaf is almost fallen….. Means, the young girl is affected by a fatal disease and about to loose her life….
